“WARE TADA TARUO SHIRU” or “Etre libre de l’avidite assure une vie paisible”

Japan is filled with temples and shrines. This comes from the fact that religion(s) has always played an important role trough the Japanese history, also there is two main religions (Shintoism and Buddhism) which have been living side by side in harmony for many centuries.
Shintoism is the original religion : it is a multi-gods cult which is based on nature spirits (Kamis), each shrine being supposed to be linked to one particular Kami (if I understood right).
Later in their history Buddhisme was eventually imported from China in the form first of Pure Land Buddhisme (Shingo…), then later on in the form of Zen (known as Chan in China).
Buddhism and Shintoism religions have co-existed ever since, and modern Japanese life follows both depending on the occasion (birth and weddings take place at Shinto Shrines, death ceremonies at Buddhist temples).
What strikes me the most while visiting shrines and temples is how well they fit within their environment, being the middle of a city or a mountain. Trees and gardens are also very present and important in most of the place I visited…

The Kanda Myoujin temple above, was enshrined in the Edo Period and has a history almost 1,300 years long. Its formal name is the Kanda Shrine. The shrine was revered by both the general public and the Shogunate during the Edo Period as the “Protector of Edo”.

The gods of the shrine are the protectors of 108 social areas in central Tokyo – including Kanda, Nihonbashi, Akihabara, Ote/Marunouchi, The Old Shrine Market and The Tsukiji Fish Market – and are collectively called “Myoujin-sama” as a symbol of endearment.

The Kanda Myoujin and is completely surrounded by buildings and constructions. But still you feel peaceful being there.
We were invited to be blessed, by Mr. Hamaguchi, one of the highest ranked person at Dentsu, whom we know since the FIFA 2002 Korea Japan World Cup, when my husband was the General Manager for the all event on behalf of FIFA Marketing.
Mr Hamaguchi had kindly arranged for us a spcial time with the monk to pray for our family happiness. It is a ritual in Japan, it would be like living in South America and avoiding listening salsa or meringue musics…..
some of my pictures on that day….
…..a little boy asked me my name, I asked him if he would be so kind to take a picture with me. He was adorable holding his toy. Below leaving the shrine with his parents. Simply beautiful and touching.
Meditation for me is about connecting to the higher part of myself, and then seeing that every living thing is connected in some way.
