Fendi celebrates its iconic Baguette bag with a book
Italian fashion house Fendi is reissuing six styles and devoting an entire book to what was arguably the first ‘it’ bag: THE BAGUETTE.
I remember going to the headquarters in Rome in 2000 to choose Miss Universe Japan 2000: Mayu Endo’s evening gown competition for Miss Universe in Cyprus, and seeing zillion baguette bags on the shelves inside the showroom. I thought I had just arrived in heaven
Four of the six Baguette bags to be reissued by Fendi, which will be available from June 1 in Fendi stores
FENDI has created over 1,000 styles, which could be spotted across movie & TV screens worldwide by Sarah Jessica Parker’s Sex and The City character Carrie Bradshaw and carried by everyone from Madonna to Julia Roberts.
The Tucano and Gialla Baguette styles are also being reissued.
Over 250 pages are dedicated to the small, rectangular handbag which Silvia Venturini Fendi conceived back in 1997. Designed to be carried under the arm like a French loaf (hence its moniker), the Baguette went on to become an accessories phenomenon, clocking up waiting lists around the world despite its eye-watering price tag.
Today I am going to search for one vintage one in the vintage shop close to my home. Yeehaa!
