Go look for basic pieces in resort collections

Resort ranges are in store much longer than mainline collections – from now until May, which means they must cover a lot of bases, weather and function-wise.

Resort receives far less press attention than the main catwalk collections. That, too, must be part of their appeal. The practice of lending hot-off-the-catwalk pieces to celebrities means key looks are so overexposed by the time they hit the stores six months later that potential customers have lost interest. Hype doesn’t necessarily translate into sales.

I’ll tell you another thing about resort collections; they’re often nicer than the catwalk ones. You may find yourself falling in love with something by a name you thought you hated. They can be marginally less expensive too, easier to wear – and probably with more longevity.
