PENELOPE CRUZ for BAZAAR

Photographs by Terry Richardson

Penélope puts the va-va-voom in Versace. Her red carpet dressing priority? “To be able to breathe!” Leather dress, Atelier Versace.

In a Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci gown and sandals. Harry Winston studs and ring

Penélope has a penchant for burgers and fries. That is actually what she eat during the shoot!

Ask Penelope how her family and friends would describe her and she replies: “Stubborn. Even my mother would say that as the first word!”

She would describe herself as “persistent. It is my best friend and my worst enemy. And I don’t just mean fighting for something related to work; it could be anything. I have a strong personality, and I say what I think. I think I’ve been better about being a little more flexible.” Tell her she’s a no-bullshit girl and she grins broadly. “That is the best compliment you can give me!”

That’s true!!!!!!!!!! I worked a few times with Penelope and I have seen her upset about work related issues. And she is as she describes above: strong and and very direct. You never hear in your back what she has to say. She gives it to you straight into your face, and that is what I like about her. And afterward she is cool…. I like that! She is real.

Penelope and Monica Cruz are designing bags for Samantha Thavasa in Asia. On this picture above with her sister Monica, Penelope was at that time filming the Hollywood movie called NINE. She was making us laugh showing us some moves that she will be playing in the movie. The 2 sisters are very close. Penelope is very attached and caring for her family. She is really sweet and discrete.

Wow her hair here was quite short on this picture… it was actually one of the first times that I worked with them. And I remember that she didn’t like this dress that she was wearing, she said it made her look fat. Well, I could not tell her yes, but she was right.

I hosted a very intimate diner that night, with only 6 people total, including Penelope and Monica and she was wearing no make-up and a white shirt with blue denim, she looked very fresh and classy. I like her naturally. That when she looks her best. Lucky girl! Well, not every woman can say that… but of course: she is Penelope Cruz what do you expect?!

My Beauty tips: GET READY FOR THE BEACH!

LUXURIOUS HAIR

Your mane reflects more light when hair is smooth. Apply a mask on your hair on the weekend.
Also use the same brsuh as I do. Amazing difference on your hair:

Ii’s an instant shine at the push of a button guarranted: Use the Satin Hair Active Ion brush by Braun!!!!!!!!!! (They sell it on Amazon.com)

Postswim secret:

Drench your hair in club soda the moment you get out of the ocean or pool. This helps rinse away any salt or chlorine buildup, which can damage your hair when left to dry in the sun. It makes a huge difference.

Tousled Waves:

Textured hair à la Gisele is easier to achieve at the beach because of the salt water. But the problem with many salt-infused styling sprays is that they can dry out and tangle your hair.
A better plan: Gently remove knots (not your natural curl) with a wide-toothed comb, then spritz on Josie Maran Bohemian Waves Argan Hair Mist, which has moisturizing ingredients for soft, shiny results.

Beach days are almost here, which means it’s time to start looking the part with sun-kissed skin.
To capture the bronze without the uv-burn, self-tanners are the only sensible way to go these days.

The fastest way to appear slimmer and hide cellulite, stretch marks, and veins is to use a self-tanner. I always use the same bronzer for the face, neck and décolletage to create color uniformity.”

First: Exfoliate with an oil-free scrub for an even absorption, then apply a light lotion to dry areas to prevent color buildup. Gradual tanners like CLARINS‘s are a good choice for beginners. (The tan looks believable—golden and natural, not fake orangey or too bronzey)

CLINIQUE SELF-SUN: I love gradual tanners for fair skinned skin. Always apply it in circular motions, starting from the bottom of your body up. Dry for a good ten minutes before putting your clothes back on. And if you still feel tacky, sweep a talc-free baby powder all over your body, as it will take away that sticky feeling without removing the color.

For hard-to-reach areas like your back, a fine mist from L’OREAL SUBLIME BRONZE will ensure complete coverage.

Its color has a touch of gold that looks Natural. I’m a big fan of the fine mist spray since it has a soft, spreadable texture and lasts just as long as the higher priced versions.

Now you’ready to look fabulous in your summer dresses! :)

93 YEARS OLD YOGA TEACHER

Tao Porchon-Lynch is just your average New York City yoga instructor. Ok, with one tiny exception: She’s 93.

As a matter of fact, Guinness World Records has named Porchon-Lynch the oldest yoga instructor in the world.

“I just, I love yoga, it brightens my day and makes everybody smile,” she says.

She’s been teaching yoga for 40 years and says neither age norhip replacement surgery will stop her from doing what she loves.

“My doctor — when he did the hip replacement — said you won’t be able to do this,” Porchon-Lynch said. “So I sent him a photograph in lotus lifting off the ground [a yoga position]. If it’s inside, I can do it.”

Porchon-Lynch fell in love with yoga as a little girl growing up in India, after seeing a group of boys practicing yoga on the beach. After traveling around the world acting, modeling, and dancing — or “playing with life,” as she calls it — she became a yoga instructor in the 1970’s.

She says she’s lived a full life, but she’s not ready to give up yet. “I’m going to dance and do yoga for as long as I live”.

Good example! Oh and my Mother is 77 years old a certified gymnastic teacher and she is still teaching twice a week and has 20 students in her class in average.
