Mother held for fatally slamming 4-month-old baby on floor

A 27-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday for slamming her 4-month-old baby onto the floor of their home in Nisshin, Aichi Prefecture, late last year, resulting in her death last week, police said. Ikuko Kitagawa, an employee of a welfare institution, has told investigators that she ‘‘acted on impulse’’ after becoming upset as the baby girl did not stop crying, police said. According to investigations, Kitagawa is suspected of slamming the head of her second daughter on the floor where Japanese-style futon bedding was laid on the morning of Dec 22.
